South Riding Is A Suburban Community Making History

Travel to Loudoun County in Northern Virginia and you will find the suburban community of South Riding. Only 29 miles from Washington D.C., South Riding was a planned community first developed in 1995 by the non-profit, non-stock South Riding Proprietary corporation in one of the richest counties in the nation. This suburban community has grown by leaps and bounds economically and socially, as it now has a population of over 25,000 residents who make a median household income of $160,000.

South Riding is what would be considered a corridor community. People make the daily commute from the city to the accessible technology firms and other employment opportunities located in Dulles, Tysons Corner and Reston areas as well as the greater job opportunities in Washington D.C. South Riding is far from being a sleepy community despite its size and rural location. The affluent residents enjoy a host of high-end amenities and recreational events that makes living in such a community a slice of paradise in Northern Virginia.

History buffs love living in Northern Virginia due to its location near Washington D.C. as they learn about the communities that helped shaped our great nation. Even though South Riding is a fairly new city, there is still history located here as people visit the Campaign of Second Manassas where Confederate soldiers traveled to engage with Union troops during the Second Battle of Bull Run during the Civil War.
There are also other attractions located in the nearby area close to South Riding. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is 3 miles away in Chantilly as people can learn about the history of aviation and space. People also visit the Sully Historic Site which was the home of Richard Bland Lee, the first congressional representative for Northern Virginia.

Events and Things to Do

Golf enthusiasts flock to the South Riding Golfer’s Club for a few rounds at the links. While the parents are off, the children have a great time at the Dulles South Skatepark where they enjoy tons of skating fun along the 5,600 square feet of street ramps and jumps. There are also fitness centers, swimming pools, and senior centers.

The city sports tons of events every year to get the community active and friendly with new residents. The Summer concert series, Fall Fest and the Jingle Bell Dash are just a few of the events they have held as they constantly introduce more activities based on community turnout.
